A Cupcake Party!

CUPCAKES! Who doesn't love a reason to eat cupcakes?!?

This week we're reading A Cupcake Party in whole group reading. so.....we couldn't pass up an opportunity to have our own cupcake party!

Today the students got to measure, mix, pour, bake, frost and taste their own cupcakes. YUM! They had a blast and really enjoyed their treat!

A bonus for all of us was having Miss Weeding's mom here to help bake! We're pretty lucky!

If you haven't already done so today, have a cupcake! :)

As we approach Thanksgiving, we have been discussing in our classroom ALL of the things that we have to be thankful for. The lists are never ending. At the top of that list are family, friends, food, water, God, siblings, clothes, etc. Wow! These kiddos sure know the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

At the top of my list is my family, friends and my students! It's these people who make my life so great. It's these people who I am lucky enough to get to surround myself with on a daily basis and for that I am SO grateful.

Welcome to the 50's!

Hip! Hip! Hooray! It's the 50th day!!!!

Today marked the 50th day of school and what better way to celebrate than a little 50's fun. We had a Rock n' Roll time!

The students were given the option to dress up in their best 50's clothing if they chose. We brainstormed ideas and looked at pictures of people from the 50's on Tuesday and decided that poodle skirts, high pony tails, rolled up jeans and slicked hair would be FABULOUS!

We started our morning by celebrating making it to the 50th day and all of the hard work that the students have put in to get here! They're 50 days smarter in reading, writing, counting, wondering, sharing and thinking! YAY!

We had many boogie woogie activities planned. We decided a great way to honor the 50th day would be by having a hula hoop contest!  FUN!

We also did a variety of math and reading activities that had to do with the 50th day. We had a bubble gum blowing contest (which we found out is kind of difficult!), learned how to do the sock hop (which is also kind of difficult :)) and wrote about what we wish we could have 50 of. Oh, the possibilities.......

We finished off the day by going to our very own homemade Drive-In movie theatre and enjoying some popcorn with the other First Grade classes.

Happy 50th day of school!!!

The Votes are in!

As many of you know, TODAY is Election Day! Get out and vote!!!

The students had the opportunity to vote today in class and they took it VERY seriously. Many of the children came to school today with some knowledge of our presidential candidates and who they thought they would vote for. We read the story "Vote" and filled out our very own Voter Registration Cards.

After Miss Weeding was the witness that signed each of their registration cards, the students were headed to the voting booth. They  each got to vote for their choice of President and we also voted on our favorite school lunch: pizza or nachos. :)

After they were done voting they each created their own I Voted sticker and they proudly wore them the entire day. FUN!

This afternoon we tallied our votes as a class....the suspense was killing us! ;) The votes are in!!!!!! Drum roll, please.............

For favorite lunch, winning with a 14:9 vote was PIZZA!
And for President, winning with a 18:5 vote was Donald Trump!

Happy Election Day! If you haven't already done so...GO VOTE!

If I were President...

It's that time of year where the Presidential Election  has almost come to an end. We talked today about what it means to be the President, all of the decisions they have to make and how important their job is. To join in the fun, we decided what each of us would do if we were President. We heard it all from making sure others are more kind, to giving food and money to less fortunate people, to making more homework and demanding everyone eats ice cream for supper (I might vote for that kiddo ;))! I think we might have some future leaders in our room! Many of these children would make a WONDERFUL President!

Here are a few of the responses that the students came up with. Enjoy!

How awesome is this?! Miss Weeding's Class for President 2016??? :)

BOO!

Happy, happy Halloween from us to you!

Halloween. One of the most exciting days of the year for a first grader. A day where it's acceptable to wear a costume everywhere you go and eat candy for breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner! (At least that's what Miss Weeding likes to think! :) )

Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
