Earth Day Activities

Happy Earth Day!!!!
(We're a little late with our celebration, but better late than never!)

Last Saturday, April 22nd, was a day that our entire country celebrated earth day. We've been talking a lot in our classroom about what we can do every single day to help. Such as: recycling, using less water, use less energy, plant trees, donate things we don't use any more, don't litter, etc.

The biggest thing we learned was that small hands CAN make a difference!!!

Today, the 1st Graders got to experience and learn more about what we can all do to help protect our planet. We had a variety of earth day activities like talking to a representative from the Recycling Center, watching a puppet show by Smokey the Bear, decorating bags for Hugo's showing our support for recycling, hearing from a bee keeper, and talking about why "I Need the Earth."

We had a LOT of fun ( we like fun in 1st grade :)) and one message that we would like to pass on is that we can all do our part to make a difference. We only get one earth, so let's take care of it!!!!
Make EVERY day earth day!!!

Please GROW!

Grow, grow, GROW!

On Tuesday, as part of our new science unit we learned all about planting seeds and what it takes to help a seed grow. What a perfect time to learn about planting with Earth Day right around the corner. We're just doing our part to help out our planet. :)

Each of us planted sunflower seeds with the help of Grandma Mary Jane. Our hope is that we can help them grow into beautiful flowers... with a little water, sunlight, nutrients and love, of course.

Stay tuned...we'll be tracking the growth of our plants and journaling along the way. We'll keep you updated on the growth of our plants! :)

Happy Spring and Happy Growing!

Hoppy Easter!

It's hard to believe it's already mid April and we are coming upon the last month of school. It actually makes me a little sad to think about... BUT that doesn't mean we haven't been busy learning, growing and having fun!

This past week we have been busy with all things Easter. Easter writing centers, Easter egg math, the bunny hop ( that might not be Easter related...but we've done it), Easter egg art projects, an Easter egg hunt, and "What's in my egg?."      You name it...we've done it!

A highlight for all of us this week was a silly little project Miss Weeding came up with. She called it:"What's in My Egg?!?"
Each of us were given a plastic egg and a clue sheet.
Our job: find an item to place inside our eggs and come up with 3 clues that we would read to the class that would help them guess what's in my egg?! We had an absolute BLAST reading these to the class and trying to guess exactly what was in everyone's eggs.

We also had so much fun with our Easter egg hunt. We found out Miss Weeding is a really good hider!

Last but not least, we want to wish ALL of our family and friends a very, VERY Happy Easter! We hope you find time to surround yourselves with family and remember the true reason for the Easter season.
