We would like to send "Happy Holiday" wishes to ALL of our family and friends!

Happy Holidays from Miss Weeding and the gang!

This is a busy time of year for everyone, but it's never too busy to stop in the hustle and bustle and reflect on all that we have to be grateful for!

Have a holly, jolly Christmas! Cherish time with family and friends. See you next year! :)

You're a MEAN one, Mr. Grinch!

Happy GRINCH Day!

We love any reason to celebrate in our room and since it's that time of year...today was Grinch Day! :)

We did what any student on Grinch Day would do... We read the book How The Grinch Stole Christmas and talked about how we would make the Grinch grin! :) Talk about heart melting! The students came up with some pretty sweet ideas like: giving him a hug, making him a cake, bringing him a present and inviting him over for dinner (That would be quite an interesting dinner)! Then, we made an art project using our ideas!

To make the Grinch grin I would___________.

During whole group reading we learned about adjectives and how they are descriptive words that describe a noun. We came up with some good adjectives to describe Mr. Grinch! Some of our favorites were grumpy, smelly, grouchy, hairy, green and mean.
We also went on a Grinchy -Ch word scavenger hunt. Miss Weeding had hid -ch word cards around the room and we had to find all of the words and then use them in a sentence. She was a good hider. Some of them were hard to find!!!

This afternoon we did a Grinch toss and take to practice our subtraction facts, followed by a Grinch number search. We just couldn't get enough of that Grinch today!

A celebration isn't complete without a snack. We had Grinch Juice and a yummy green cookie (We LOVE cookies!) while we watched the cartoon Grinch.

It was a fun (and green) day! We loved how Mr. Grinch finally learned how to be kind! It made our hearts feel happy!!!

We're hoping your hearts this holiday season are feeling full of LOVE and JOY, just like Mr. Grinch's!

Candy Cane Experiment

We were lucky enough to have some science fun this morning with some new friends. We made the lonnggggggg walk down to the middle school to join Miss Gareis and her 7th grade science class for a little Christmas themed fun!

The first graders partnered up with 7th graders to predict and experiment what would happen to candy canes when placed in oil, warm water and vinegar.

We even got to be true scientists and wear goggles! FUN!

The results were exciting and to top off the excitement, we got to have a little fizzy fun with vinegar, food coloring and baking soda!

Thank you to Miss Gareis and her 7th grade science class. We had a BLAST learning and experimenting with you!

ALL ABOARD!

ALL ABOARD..........
           The First Grade Polar Express!

Friday, December 16th, we had our annual Polar Express Day in First Grade. CHOO, CHOO!!!!

The students were greeted by train tracks Friday morning as they arrived in their PJ's and slippers ready for a fun day of activities, games and projects!

Here are each of the students in their picture aboard the train! :)
After a morning full of fun and games, we boarded the Polar Express and headed to the North Pole! Well.....kind of. ;)

Grandpa Terry was our Conductor and punched each of the students' tickets as they jumped on the train.

We spent the rest of the afternoon watching the Polar Express and enjoying hot chocolate in the comfort of our pj's and slippers! What a day! (Too bad we can't wear our pj's every day....COMFY!)

Fun was had by all

Until next year, Polar Express!

P.S.  We hope this time of year finds everyone happy and healthy. It's hard to believe it's already Christmas time. WOW! Where has the year gone?! It's a great time to look back and reflect on all the wonderful things the year has brought us. Happy Holidays to all!

Snowflake's... ELFCAPADES!

Snowflake....she definitely has kept us on our toes!

Each day when we walk into the classroom, the hunt is on to find where she is hiding that day!

The students are very cautious NOT to touch her, as they know she would lose her magic. And we can't have that!!!! Snowflake has to be able to fly back to the North Pole every night to report back to Santa how our day was!

Here is a few of Snoflake's ELFCAPADES! Santa should be proud ;)... the kiddos have been rockstars!!!

Dear Santa, .....

"Dear Santa,......."

This morning we were lucky enough to have some special visitors from the high school come and help us write letters to Santa. We read a story this morning called Thank You, Santa and the students were then given the opportunity to create their own letters.

In our letters, we had to include something nice. Many of us thanked him for presents last year and for working so hard all year.
Next, we had to nicely tell him something we would like this year. And of course we used our manners! :)
Then, we signed our letter...
Love,
and our name.

P.S. At the bottom, we got to write a P.S. to Santa and either ask him or tell him one more thing we just couldn't wait to share or find out!!!

The high schoolers even read books with us AND they even brought our envelope of letters to the post office to mail to Santa. How NICE are they?!?!?! They definitely made Santa's nice list this year!!!!

We hope Santa enjoys reading our letters and if we're lucky enough (and if he can find time in his busy schedule....) maybe he'll even answer us back! Fingers crossed!!! :)

Happy weekend!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Happy December 1st!!!!

It's beginning to look a LOT like Christmas! :) The students and I have been busy decorating for the holidays! They did a fabulous job setting up the tree and putting the ornaments on during church school.

We also had a special visitor that dropped in this morning. Apparently she'll be here until Christmas and the children are SO, very excited to have her here.

After some careful consideration, we voted on Snowflake as her name. So, everyone, meet Snowflake!!!

We read a letter from Santa himself telling us about Snowflake and her Christmas magic. We're hoping she has GOOD things to report to him every night!

We hope everyone is as excited for the holiday season as we are. Christmas music, decorations, lights and holiday cheer has filled our classroom! Have a great holiday season and remember....SNOWFLAKE IS WATCHING!!!! ;)

A Cupcake Party!

CUPCAKES! Who doesn't love a reason to eat cupcakes?!?

This week we're reading A Cupcake Party in whole group reading. so.....we couldn't pass up an opportunity to have our own cupcake party!

Today the students got to measure, mix, pour, bake, frost and taste their own cupcakes. YUM! They had a blast and really enjoyed their treat!

A bonus for all of us was having Miss Weeding's mom here to help bake! We're pretty lucky!

If you haven't already done so today, have a cupcake! :)
