Let's Do It Again!

To say the first week was a blur would be an understatement. Between get-to-know-you games, kicking of a brand new reading curriculum, jumping head first into our first math unit, back to school testing, and lots of games and activities, we somehow managed to make it through week one...and we all still have smiles on our faces!

This week has gone by in the blink of an eye but it has been a HUGE indication as to what the year has in store for us and I simply can’t wait! This group of 21 first graders has made me smile, hug, laugh, play, listen, learn and continue to love my job even more (and did I say smile??? :)) in only 4 short days!

Our first day started of a little jittery as some of us were feeling those first day jitters. Don’t worry though, that jitter juice helped those butterflies fly right out of our tummies!  We rocked day 1 in true first grade fashion and we’re ready to bring on day 2.

Our second day we were off and running! Rules and procedures? We’ve got them down! We learned what it’s like to be good listeners and learners and a highlight for many of us was a fun game of “bubble gum.”

Day three? Let’s go! We kept chugging along practicing our classroom expectations and an exciting part of today was our first day of music! We also learned how to use twitter and keep our families updated on all of the fun happenings in our room!

Day 4- Happy Friday! An entire week has flown by and the days seem to go faster and faster. We spent the day getting to know eachother more, practicing writing our numbers to 50 and talking about our favorite part of the first week! And we even snuck in a little extra play time outside!

I hope your child LOVED school as mush as I did this week. I can't wait for week 2!!! Happy weekend- enjoy the sunshine!

Ready or not, HERE WE COME! :)

Excited, nervous, happy, scared, optimistic, sad, thrilled, anxious...the list could go on and on and the feelings we have as the first day of school approaches are changing every second of the day.

This time of year, as I sit in my classroom and look out at the empty desks that will soon be filled with 21 little humans, I feel an unbelievable amount of excitement as I begin to think about: the smiling faces I'm about to see daily, the friendships that are going to be developed, the learning that is going to take place and the FUN we are going to have! I have spent hours organizing every inch of our room, planning fun hands on activities, writing detailed lesson plans and thinking about everything this year has in store for us...and I can't wait!!!

Students: I want to tell you that I am SO excited to be your teacher. I can’t wait to learn and grow alongside you and most importantly I can’t wait to watch you grow and succeed! First grade is such a fun grade for so many reasons and so much progress is made! Please know I am your biggest fan and I want to see you succeed! ALWAYS ask for help when you need it- that's why I am here! :)

Parents: as a new member of our “family” I want to welcome you and tell you that I am truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to be your child’s teacher. I can’t wait to make this the best year possible for your child. Please know I am here to help and I am always available to answer any questions you may have. You have my email and phone number- please use them!

With that being said...our classroom is ready and patiently waiting for 21 awesome students to walk in the door!

Also- Please feel free to stop by and visit! We LOVE company...and we are pretty awesome!

Here’s to another GREAT year! Enjoy your last few days of summer vacation and get lots of rest. Ready or not 2018/19 school year....HERE WE COME!!!!!

100 DAYS?!?

100th day of school?????

How is that even possible?!? It seems like just yesterday we were walking into our classroom on the first day of school and feeling those first day jitters... Now look at us! We've got this whole first grade thing down to a T.

In true first grade fashion, since today marked the 100th day, this called for a celebration! SO, celebrating we must! And we DID! :)

Here's a run down of our very fun, very hands on, very exciting, very 100ish feeling day!

The day started by crawling through the door...yes, crawling. ;)

We had to take a moment for LOTS of giggles as we looked how everyone was dressed. I mean...how CUTE are they?!?!?

The teachers had to get in on the fun too! :)

Our reading time today was spent making a 100 day book, reading 100th day worries, and doing our different 100th day STEM stations. What could we make with 100 popsicle sticks, cups, pattern blocks, legos, and connecting cubes? FUN!

We also did a little writing. "When I am 100 years old, I Will..." SO funny to read! :)

For math we spent the afternoon counting every way possible to 100, counting out 100 items for our 100th day snack, working with odd and even numbers to 100, then finishing up by playing some 100th day games.

This afternoon, we also had time for a "100" art project. They turned out awesome!

I have to say it was a very successful 100th day!
As I sit here thinking back on all that we have learned in 100 days... the progress that has been made, and the little people who I am blessed to work with every day, I can't help but smile (and get a little teary eyed). Your child has work so incredibly hard this year and you can most certainly tell their hard work has paid off! These sweet kiddos are an outstanding bunch who have made this school year one to remember!

This 100 year old lady is exhausted after this busy day! ;) SO...Ask your child tonight about their favorite part of the 100th day. They'll have LOTS to share! (If they're 100 year old brain remembers what we did):)

Happy Thursday!

"I have a dream..."

WE have a Dream!

Monday, January 15th, we celebrate not only an individual who made our world a better place, but the fact that because of him we know what equality means.

We began talking about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this week as we are approaching the holiday on Monday. The students were shocked as we read and learned about how unfair our world used to be.  Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech really inspired the kids to write their own dreams about showing everyone kindness and treating others the way we want to be treated.

An important message we learned was that it doesn't matter what's on the outside, but it's what's on the inside that really matters!

A favorite quote from the week: "Miss Weeding, why couldn't everyone just love eachother?" What a fabulous question. And what a great idea!!! So, my challenge to you is to go out and LOVE everyone!

Happy long weekend, everyone. Remember what Monday is truly about.

'Tis the Season for....craziness!!

Happy, Happy Holidays from us to you!

WOW! What a busy, crazy time of year for everyone...and we're no exception.
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of fun. And excitement. We thought we better get you all caught up...

*Minty (in case you haven't heard...she's our elf) continued to surprise us daily with her shenanigans. She definitely has kept us on our toes and we were sad to see her go today. We've loved every minute of it though... We think she's pretty great! AND she said we are ALL on the NICE LIST!!!! Yahoo!

*We joined forces with our 7th grade friends and Ms. Gareis (the science teacher) for a fun morning of science and experiments. We had SO much fun! We tested what would happen to candy canes in cold water, warm water and vinegar. We also got to see what baking soda does when mixed with liquids...so cool! Our 7th grade friends were so kind and helpful!

*GRINCH day. Yep, we did. We celebrated grinch day. There was a lot of green. A lot of grinch themed activities. A lot of green snacks. And a lot of green fun!

*Polar Express Day PJ's and a hot chocolate party??? We're in. We spent the morning rotating through different Polar Express activities before we loaded the train and headed for the North Pole. (I really think I had them convinced there was a real train picking us up ;)). After recess, we boarded the train and spent the afternoon enjoying The Polar Express and sipping on hot chocolate. A perfect, cozy afternoon!

*Holiday Party. The perfect way to end the year together was celebrating the holidays, as well as each other. We're so, very, very lucky to be able to spend our days together. We really are like a family in room 104 and we feel very blessed because of it! Our day consisted of math and reading Christmas activities, a few minute to win it games, making magic reindeer food, opening a few presents, eating a few snacks and of course...having a lot of fun!

Wishing you ALL a very MERRY Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you next year!!! :)

Love, Miss Weeding
